Take a Picture - Day 55 - Toy Story

Well tonight I watched Toy Story 1 & 2 and now I can now finally watch the ocsar winning (for best animated film) Toy Story 3.  Both movies were really cute & funny and I can only imagine that the third will be the same.  So today's picture is of course of a toy, I believe I found this toy on the beach while on a bike trip to nantucket a few years ago, love the spiral shape of it and it lights up too!

Take a Picture - Day 52 - Gnomocide

This morning since it was raining I switched jackets and as soon as I closed the front door, I realized that I left my keys in my other jacket.  I then called Tom (who just left a few mintues before) and he came back to let me in.  While I was waiting on my porch I noticed face down on the ground next to the steps the gnome who used to be on our steps and must've fallen over and got burried in the snow and has been unearthed again.  The melting snow brings lots of surprises! lol :)

Take a Picture - Day 51 - Eternal Flame

Well today was a good day for me!  Got my photos framed and ready to drop them off tomorrow at the Maywood Library for the next month.  Also, got interviewed by my writer friend Susan Joy Clark along with my painter friend Jack McKenzie (his paintings are also at the library as well) for the local community news newspaper, which was fun.  So be on the look out for that.

Today's photo is of my color (red, orange, burn all the green already) flame moma candles (i received them from a friend after my first solo show) so I decided to burn them as I'm getting ready for another show!

Well today my mom and I had to visit my great uncle tonight at palisades general hospital in North Bergen.  He is fine (just took a nasty fall on the sidewalk face first), he even let me take pics of his face and both my mom and Tom said that should be todays pic of the day with my mom's title suggestion of "you should see the other guy", i thought that was a little tacky to post lol. (but hey if i get enough requests.......maybe ;)

So hopefully I have fulfilled my hospital quota for the year!  The one good thing about this hospital is that the parking lot faces the NYC skyline, in which I got this nice shot!!

Take a Picture - Day 48 - One, Two, skip a few!

Well for the past three days I haven't posted a photo, but today is a new day and new photo.  I was doing some redesigning for my buffet and unpacked my rainbow collection of squiggle vases from Ikea.  They were very well priced and upon a recent trip to Ikea, I discovered that they no longer make them which I'm sad about.

The mild weather today was so great!  Melting away some more snow, not having to use gloves and hat, and having the warm sun setting to exchange places with this beautiful bright moon.

While washing the griddle today and drying it and flipped it around and noticed this cool almost snowflake like pattern that was caused the stove grates!

Important photography rule - #2

Well today I learned and reminded myself again of another important rule in photography.  Well as I stated a few weeks back of rule # 1 of never leave home without making sure you have your memory card in your camera. 

#2's rule is when you see or have an photo opportunity shoot it and don't take it for granted  and put tit off thinking its always going to be there.  In my case, there is this house that I would drive by all the time near my house on Maywood Ave that had this sign that they must've hand made in shape of a guitar with that statement "All you need is Love" and at nighttime it would be lit up with red lightbulbs.  I remember seeing these house and sign long before I even moved to Maywood and wondered about it.  I was all set to take it today as I was going to work and then again at night and guess of course...........it was gone and taken down after being up since like before Christmas.  I had all this time and it was always on my way and never took the time. 

Totally learned my lesson there!!

Take a Picture - Day 42 - Shaken not stirred

I was at my parents house tonight visiting and had to take a picture of my olive table and martini lamp that I bought several years ago, but did not take with me when I moved, didn't have the room for it (kinda miss it).  Gotta love furniture and lighting that is made to look like food & drink!

Take a Picture - Day 41 - V-Day

I never really liked Valentine's day and never celebrated it whether i was single, dating, and now married.  I feel like it's a money making scheme thought up by Hallmark, florist, and chocolatiers, trying to boost up their sales.  Also, why wait for this one particular day to tell someone you love them, when you can do anytime, it just becomes so expected!

Today after work I got an oil change at the sear auto center at paramus park mall, when I came out and just about to drive away I saw these balloons hanging in the trees blowing in the wind that had picked up in the afternoon.  To think that someone spent the time and money to get these balloons for someone only to have them be blown away, talk about a waste of money!!  They should've at least waiting until tomorrow to get them half priced and save some money!! LOL :)

Just got this laptop skin as a gift from my friend Jo Anne featuring peacocks which I love.  Also added my own peacock feather to the photo as an added touch!

Take a Picture - Day 38 - Night into Day - Take 2

Here is my second attempt at taking a photo at night to make it look like daytime.

This time i had the camera a little more steady (was sitting in my car and had the camera resting on the car door ledge and also took this before 6pm when it was still twilight out, so I think that made a little difference too!

I first tried this last year and loved it especially the raspberry flavor.  Best hot chocolate ever!  Well what do you expect from a company that makes great cheese as well!!

Was at CVS and saw this from Sally Hansen, it's peel & stick nail polish and it came in all these cool designs including denim & hounds tooth, which I have on now.  It supposedly lasts 10 days and held up so far with washing dishes and cleaning.

Take A Picture - Day 31 - Have your cake

Today I finally got to celebrate Tom and dad's b-day since Tuesday we had to cancel due to what else......snow.  It's cool that they share the same birthday.  In fact I know a lot of people with the same birthday as well!

We went out to dinner at Houllians followed by cake at our apt.  I originally ordered half lemon and half cannoli filling and instead got top layer of lemon and bottom layer of cannoli.  Guess next time I'll be getting my cake somewhere else lol lol (won't mention any names). 

Through out the years every time we have b-day cake I love taking macro shots of the butter cream flowers that they always put on,  sometimes I take a little too long take the shots I want because the guys starting complaining about it tonight lol !

Take A Picture - Day 30 - Burn Baby Burn

So I decided to go in the opposite decoration of yesterday photos and take a picture of my color drip candle.  Also, in my life group tonight we were talking about burning candles and how it's calming thing to watch.  Watching this candle burn was relaxing, especially seeing  the colors to slowly drip down and form in to a waxy sculpture.

Well with all the talk about ice these past few days, it was only appropriate to take photos of it.  While I was thawing out my car for a good 30-45 min this morning, I saw these trees in my back yard!

Take a Picture - Day 28 - NIght into Day

As I said in my previous post, I was going to attempt to do my own version of the taking a photo during the night and making it look like day.  Here are my first attempts at it.

I like being challenged with my photography and exploring the different features of my camera I don't use on a normal basis!  Look out for more attempts of these in the future!

My mom sent me this link about this website Gizmodo that was challenging it's readers to take photos at night to look like day using their manual cameras and long exposure to create the effect.

Pretty cool stuff, makes me want to try that as well with my camera with my manual feature!
